This work adopts the visual language of Youtube unboxing videos. Unboxing videos engage the viewer by catering to a desire to consume, if only with one’s eyes. In this piece, the familiar trope of the unboxing video takes a surreal turn, foregrounding that the fetishization of objects is often driven by emotional and physical yearnings.
