DEEP SKIN

Deepskin: an exhibition at Lane Meyer Projects in 2021 as a part of LMP PDA, a program curated by Brooke Tomiello during the pandemic in which an artist presents work in the gallery’s window vitrine every two weeks.

In this exhibition, materials that are designed to ornament bodies like fake nails, barbells and gold chain are suspended in gelatinous membranes of bioplastic, eyeshadow and tree moss oil. During the pandemic, bodies became tangled with feelings such as longing, anxiety, desire and repulsion rather than operating as sites of connection, interaction and exchange and so the sculptures embodied that tension.
