4D APPROACHES
Course Description & SyllabusStudents are introduced to the fundamental principles of four-dimensional art and design through a survey of concepts, techniques, and practices. Emphasis is placed on critical thinking, creative problem-solving, and experimentation through investigations of technological form and innovation, time and motion, and the ephemeral. Verbal and written exercises supplement group activities and visual learning.
Stop Motion Animation
Students created a 30 second stop motion at 15 frames per second that engages with the idea of transformation.
One-Shot Narrative
Students created a single-shot video narrative using one concept and one technique from a provided list. This means that the entire video is shot in one take and is not edited together.
Chroma Key
Students created a video that uses the chroma key technique, a technique used for inserting a new background or environment behind moving figures or extracting shapes based on a specific color in video, to alter reality.
Metaphor
Students created a 2-3 minute video that uses the technique of metaphor to convey an idea using a new metaphor or a highly original take on an existing metaphor.
